Creating family in the LGBTQ+ community

While not always easy, there are ways for non-traditional individuals and couples to have a family. This includes the LGBTQ+ community. Talk to your doctor about your options. This may include medications, insemination, surrogacy, foster parenting or adoption.

Work with a fertility team that values the LGBTQ+ community. Be sure the staff knows about your needs and concerns. Ask them about which options are best for you to get pregnant.

A few more tips:

  • Fertility treatments can be costly. Find out if you have insurance coverage for fertility treatments. If so, ask which types are covered.
  • Check to see if your employer offers fertility benefits. If yes, which one(s)?
  • Laws vary in every state. This can impact your fertility choices. Find up-to-date information by state about laws and coverage at https://resolve.org/

Going through fertility treatments can be stressful. You may have mixed emotions. You’re not alone. Reach out to loved ones and your fertility care team. They can help make sure you and your partner get the support you need.
